Happy (not so) New Year!

Ok, so January is almost over and you all haven't heard from me since at least September but I'm here now!  It's a new day in the new year and for a lot of people, myself included, that means trying some new things.

Some of you may be familiar with the forum on the NaNoWriMo website called The Year of Doing Big, Fun, Scary Things Together.  This is where all of the Wrimos can post the list of big, fun, and scary things that they want to do this year and find other people that may have the same things on theirs.

I made a BFS Things List for myself this year, a lot are reading and writing related and some are not.  I'll share my writing/reading related ones.

WRITE-I have many different projects that need to be finished or started
Read 30 books- Some of my friends told me that Goodreads can help with that.  They have a thing where you can set you goal for the year and they'll keep track of the books you read and how many.  It's pretty nifty!
Go to at least one writers conference- I don't know which ones yet.  RT Booklovers is where I'd like to go but it doesn't seem to be within my reach yet.  Perhaps I'll find something that's local?
Enter some contests- That's more of a morale booster than anything.  I haven't really let anyone see my work outside of the writer's group I go to.  And who knows, maybe I'll actually win something too.  That would be a bonus!
Blog more- Yes.  I have been gone for far too long.  My goal is to post at least twice a month.

I have a little white board that I have decided to dedicate to my BFS Things List.  I'm going to break my goals down every month into smaller goals or things that will help me on my way to a bigger goal.

Not too shabby so far this month.  Using every color, for the win!

So that's my year so far!  Tell me, what are some of the big, fun, scary things that you have already done or will do?

Happy 2013 everyone!

Ever write a blog post about your resolutions and then a year later look at them and realize 'Wow, I don't think I did a single one of those...'  Me?  No, I was just asking...  Ok, maybe.  Oh well.  I can either beat myself up about it or take advantage of this new year.  With a new year comes new resolutions!

REVISE THAT '09 NANO NOVEL!!!
Yes, that needed to be Caps Locked along with the bold.  I've been putting it on the back burner for way too long.  In fact, all of my NaNo's have.  This one is really the only NaNo novel that I wrote 'the end' on so I have 3 other unfinished novels patiently waiting for me.  Hmmm, makes me think that I should tack on another resolution.

Finish at least one other NaNo novel.
That a girl, Sarah.  Next?

Finish at least 3 short stories.
I can think of two at least that haven't gotten my proper attention.  One might be a bit long for a short story but so be it.

Research!
I'm going to start looking into magazines and such that take submissions.  It's time I start trying to ease my way into the publishing world.

So how about you?  Any writing related goals?  Any other kinds of goals?  Keep at it, everyone!

Happy New Year!

Another year ended yesterday and another started today. I think it's fair to say that 2011 was a good year. As I summed up in yesterday's post a lot of good things happened. What do we have to look forward to this year?

The Hunger Games movie - I'm so excited for this. I loved the books so I hope the movie does it justice.

Twilight concludes!- Some may be sad about it and some may be happy. I myself am neutral. I like the movies and I'm definitely going to a midnight showing but definitely not holding the same kind of spot on my list that Harry Potter did. Still nursing that wound... *sigh... sniff* Lol.

Something exciting on the blog?- I have big plans for something really cool I want to try out late in the year. I don't really want to elaborate for fear of finding out that I bit off more than I can chew, but I did mention it so it will hopefully get me hyped up to just go for it. I will say that it's NaNoWriMo fundraising related.

Now on to resolutions. I think I kept my resolutions pretty good last year for the most part. Here are some writer things I want to do this year.

Revise NaNo 09 novel then let someone read it- I wanted to write a query letter for it last year but after reading it to my writer's group over the course of a couple of months I found (or they found. Lol.) that I had major plot holes to fill. It's nowhere ready for that stage yet.

Finish NaNo '11 novel and the zombie story- Finally got the plot all figured out for the NaNo '11. Now I just have to get it on to paper. Still have a little more work to do on the Zombie one.

Set one predetermined day a week to spend a couple hours working on something writing related- I'm horrible at my time management. If it's not 'scheduled' then it's something that I can let slide. I know, shame on me. I'm not saying that I will only write on that day. If I feel like writing then go me, I'll write. But I will definitely be writing at that time on that day on something. Be it blog, edits, or novels it will be written!

Hmm, I'm sure I'll add to that list at some point. Lol. How about you? Anything in particular you want to do this year? I guess I should add taking down Christmas decorations to the list at this point... ummm.... *glances at tree* Later though. Lol.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! :)

2011!!

Happy New Year everybody! I hope the first week of 2011 has gone well for you. We had a lot of fun with my family so mine has gone pretty well. But, along with going back to work and school, a lot of people are making resolutions. Since this is the first post of 2011 I thought I’d share some of my writing resolutions here so you can all yell at me if I’m not keeping to it. :) Lol. Here they go:

1. Write more shorts
Writing short stories is how I started writing in general. Lately though, it seems that I haven’t been doing many of them at all. I kind of miss it. So let’s put a number on it. I will write at least 3 shorts this year. Short number one is in progress by the way.

2. Finish editing/write a query letter for my 2009 NaNo novel
It has been sitting there unfinished long enough. Time to fix it up and see what I can do with it!

3. Do a little poetry
I’m going to try to get an internship and the portfolio that I have to fill out asks me to do poetry. I’ve never really tried poetry before. I had to do a couple of high school assignments here and there but really I have no experience in that. So this year that’s going to change too.

So that’s just a few things I want to do this year. What’s some of yours? Have you already gotten started? I have a feeling that 2011 is going to be made of awesome. Whoo!!

A new year could also bring new things to my blog. I have a couple ideas that I’m going to throw out there that could mean more posts. I was thinking about more book reviews and a ‘Poetry Slam Challenge’ series.

I want to do book reviews on random days because when I finish a book I like to do reviews as soon as I can so my idea of it is still fresh. So I figure why not post them as I read them? The ‘Poetry Slam Challenge’ could be every month. You all challenge me with a topic and the type of poem (like a haiku or…uh, well, that’s really the only kind I know. I really, really need to work on this) and I’ll do it and post it. It will help me learn more about poetry and keep my word on my resolution. Hopefully it'll be fun for you guys to be involved and see how I do with your challenge too. Maybe you could even do it with me and I’ll post a link to poems for that month’s challenge.

Let me know what you think. See you next post. :)
